Saturday, May 4th - Birding & Nature Hike at Dark Moon Preserve.

Join RVC Trustee and Naturalist Dennis Briede for a half-day hike in the native meadow and forest of the picturesque Dark Moon Preserve.

Time/Location: 8:30 am, meet at the main parking lot at the Dark Moon Preserve. (Route 519 at the Sussex / Warren County border)

Saturday, May 18th - Trail Orienteering & Marking
at the new Lightning Bug Hollow Preserve

Learn how to use smart phone technology to map and follow a new trail route through the conservancy’s newest preserve - the 202-acre Lightning Bug Hollow Preserve in Hardwick, and help mark the trail.

This event is being carried out in coordination with Warren County’s White Lake Day.

Time/Location: 1:00 pm, meet at the Hardwick municipal building parking lot. (40 Spring Valley Road, Hardwick)

Saturday, July 27th - Butterfly / Insect Walk at Dark Moon Preserve

Enjoy a leisurely walk at RVC’s Dark Moon Preserve with RVC Trustee Sharon Wander and her husband Wade, both professional ecologists, to observe the array of beautiful butterflies and other fascinating winged and crawling critters that thrive in the meadows on this preserve.

Time/Location: 10:00 am, meet at the main parking lot at the Dark Moon Preserve. (Route 519 at the Sussex / Warren County border)

Sunday, October 20th - Fall Foliage Hike in the Limestone Forest Preserve

Take a hike in our Limestone Forest Preserve in Hardwick. This 396-acre property was the first ever protected by RVC. Hike among the pinnacles and troughs of the unique limestone terrain, learn about sinkholes and springs, see remnants of Native American chert factories, and enjoy fall foliage.

The hike is moderate to difficult, covers about 2 miles, and will take about 2 hours.

Time/Location: 10:00 am, meet at the Hardwick municipal building parking lot. (40 Spring Valley Road, Hardwick)
